The Water Tribes

Anyone know the real difference between the tribes?

Incorrect Comet. We are not talking about the other nations. There are two water tribes. The Southern water tribe and the Northern Water Tribe. The Southern water tribe was pretty much obliterated in the war, all the water benders were stolen from the tribe during fire nation raids. There had been one water bender left, and they heard about their birth, so they returned to take the last water bender of the Southern tribe, which was Katara. Though her mother claimed it was her and was killed because of it, saving katara in her place.

The Southern tribe is a very small tribe. There are probably only about 100 people living in the Southern tribe, if that. Including Katara, Gran Gran and Sokka. They all live in igloo huts.

While the Northern tribe is much much larger. The Northern tribe is full of water benders. Thanks to this, they were able to put up much large and more qualifying defenses against the fire nation and unlike their sister tribe, were able to survive through a hundred years of war. The Northern water tribes people actually live in houses made of ice that was bent and shaped by their fellow water benders. The road ways are canals in which they ride on gondola's much like the people of Venice Italy in our world. If you don't ride a gondola, you can walk along the side walk ways and cross using the bridges.

The Northern tribe is ruled by a Chief where as the Southern tribe doesn't really have a designated one at the moment. In the Southern tribe, women are allowed to fight using their bending, while in the Northern, it is forbidden. In the Northern tribe, women are supposed to be homemakers and healers while the men are fighters, workers and bring home the food.

They both really have the same marriage customs though.
